The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue
Whenever a major honors show nears, you'll find an outcry for introducing fresh award types to honor unsung work and fill the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories actually cover many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
The Representation Problem
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything that year
- Another imaginative release missed out that year
- Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
- Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games in the world and have been for many years.
The legendary block-stacking game competes with popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.
Proposal and Rationale
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers function at the demanding boundary of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
